Wardrobe Essentials-Summer

Ann:  Julie, my son just finished his finals yesterday.  Summer is here!  My closet is filled with fun, colorful tops and skirts, but I feel like I may need a few basics to make it all work.  Do you have any thoughts on the “Essentials of Summer”?

Julie:  You know I do!  You can take all your vibrant tunics and tops and put them together with your choice of these key anchor pieces in white.

For a chic look, try a great pair of Alice + Olivia white linen pants, shown here with an Alice + Olivia mocha silk top.

Need something more casual for a walk on the beach?  Try Joes Jeans, in white, paired with a colorful print tunic or with Milly’s nautical striped sweater.

Milly’s easy-breezy linen skirt with a Susana Monaco orange tank is the perfect outfit for summer brunch.  Add another splash of color to the mix, like Kara Ross’ fuchsia pendant necklace shown here, and you’ve embraced color block chic of Spring 2011!

And, course, you’ll need a fabulous canvas or straw bag to complete your look! My favorites for this season are the Halston Heritage canvas bag with patent leather trim,

Or, the Kara Ross straw handbag with an exquisite espresso python trim,

And, finally, why not look stylish while doing some good?  The FEED bag, shown here in burlap with beading detail, is handcrafted in Kenya by a co-op of women and deaf Kenyans.  For every bag purchased, a $100 donation is made to the United Nations World Food Programme’s School Feeding Operations in Kenya.

I know you have fallen in love with the best of spring/summer 2011 shoes, Ann, so I’ll leave that to you.
