Fun Friday – Winter 2012 Edition

Julie,

I remember how much fun we had getting ready for a big night out when we were roommates.  We would crank up the music, pour ourselves a cold beer, and try on everything in each other’s closet, looking for that perfect outfit.

In honor of Fun Friday, I have a grown-up version of getting ready for a big night out (even if it’s just to go to the movies).

First, start with a smart cocktail.  My personal favorite is a dirty martini.  I like them really dirty, like, pornographic dirty, so I don’t skimp on the olive brine.

Extra Dirty Martini

  • Splash of dry vermouth
  • 2 Ounces Vodka
  • 3/4 – 1 Ounce Olive Brine (olive juice)
  • 2 Olives
  1. Add the splash of dry vermouth to martini glass.
  2. Swirl the vermouth around the glass then pour it out.
  3. Add the vodka, olive brine and ice to a shaker.
  4. Cover and shake until your hand is so cold you swear it’s going to fall off.
  5. Strain drink into martini glass.
  6. Spear olives and drop into side of drink.
  7. Enjoy.

Next, crank up the music.  This song from Raphael Saadiq is so groovy and fine (press play in the video box to hear the song).

Time to get dressed.  The vodka and smooth base line make me want to wear something sleek and chic.

Why not start with a classic pencil skirt?

Something short and fitted, like this Diane von Furstenberg from Bloomingdales.

Keep it sexy and classic, with an all-black top.

(Are you singing along with Raphael yet?  “…this girl of mine…”)

Or, if you’re feeling saucy, put on a dramatic red top.

To spice things up (it is the weekend, after all), why not break out some fabulous undergarments or stockings?

And finish the look off with a pair of killer heels – Louboutin, of course

(“You see your high heels are killing me…”)

Now, you’re ready to dance out of the front door.

Happy Weekend!

Ann
