To all our You Look Pretty readers:
Over the next nine days, we are going to give you a preview of the designs and the story behind the Julia Farr Collection.
Today, we begin with the beginning:
The Julia Farr Collection
The Julia Farr Collection offers essential, timeless silhouettes in elegant, luxurious fabrics for the enlightened, cosmopolitan woman.
We offer key foundation pieces that can be woven into every woman’s wardrobe. Our enduring designs subtly incorporate trends, through color , print and detail, so that the Julia Farr woman feels fashionably enlightened, while maintaining her individual style.
Each piece in the Julia Farr Collection is named after a specific place in Washington, DC. The many cultural, historical and natural treasures of our nation’s capital inspire our designs.
The entire collection is made in America.
The Julia Farr Woman
We design clothing inspired by the Washington woman. Intelligent and cosmopolitan, she is a woman who lives a life of complexity and responsibility, balancing home, philanthropic and professional commitments, infused daily by a healthy dose of fun. The Julia Farr woman embraces her femininity and recognizes her innate strength. She desires to look polished and chic at home, at work and at play.
Julia Farr and Ann Tierney Prochnow, co-founders of Julia Farr Collection LLC, became friends while students at Georgetown University. Their 25-year friendship transcended their disastrous first encounter with one another, when they both wore the exact same Laura Ashley dress to a freshman dance. Despite this fashion faux pas, they soon became fast friends, bonding over a love of fashion and discussing the best looks for all the momentous occasions of their lives.
Julia, a sixth-generation Washingtonian, opened Julia Farr, a women’s clothing boutique in 2010, after working for 17 years as a corporate securities attorney. Ann has lived off and on in DC since 1984, working for Ralph Lauren in New York and various non-profits in Colorado and Missouri. Together, they understand both the long-standing traditions and the energizing transiency of the culturally vibrant and historically significant city of Washington.
Inspired by the chic women in their families, they share a desire to create a company that produces clothing that helps women to see themselves at their best every day. They carry with them many of the values imbued in them during their years at Georgetown, particularly their belief in giving back to their community, whether it’s locally, nationally or globally.
