You know what a great guy my husband is, and how much I love him. But, he is not one to follow fashion trends. In fact, his style has changed very little since we first met over 20 years ago. His uniform is a blue or white button down shirt from Brooks Brothers and pleated khaki pants from Joseph Banks.
When flat front pants came on the scene over eight years ago, I begged him to give them a try. His slim, athletic build was perfect for this style. It took almost a decade to convince him to buy a pair. In fact, his purchase had little to do with me. He had gone to buy his same old pleated pants from Banks, they didn’t stock them at the store. He had to special order them! So, he took a pair of flat fronts for a test drive, and said they were ok.
No sooner had he bought them, then he sends me an article from the Wall Street Journal in which author Ray Smith says that pleated pants are back “in” for men. Argh! According to Smith, Burberry Prorsum, Prada, Calvin Klein, Dries Van Noten and Gucci are among the labels that featured pleated pants for men in their recent runway shows.
I am going to look on the bright side. Perhaps it’ll take him another 20 years to revert back to pleats.
