I hope you had a lovely 4th of July holiday. And, what a way to kick it off – celebrating your grandmother’s 105 birthday!
Even though it’s now officially the middle of summer, and we just had our hottest date so far (102 degrees?), I’m fully immersed in wools and velvets because it’s production time for our Julia Farr Collection fall line!
I know that most people couldn’t imagine putting on a wool boucle suit right now, but, as you know, each season’s collection has to be final at least 6 months in advance of the season. Which means our Fall Collection designs have been in the works since last spring. In fact, we were shopping for our fall fabrics at the LA Textile show last fall (one year ahead of when we debut the designs). Now, it’s crunch time – finalizing linings, securing notions, and, then, cutting and sewing the designs so they are ready to be shipped in early September.
Even though we focus on essential pieces in the Collection, we are, of course, in tune with current fashion trends. It’s fun to look back at some of the high-end designers and see if we hit on emerging trends. One of our key design features this fall is several key pieces in a luxurious silk velvet. You know how much I love velvet (see: George Costanza from this Seinfeld clip – “If it was socially acceptable, I would drape myself in velvet). I would even wear it on a 102 degree day. Indoors, of course.
We will be in good company in the velvet arena this fall. Ralph Lauren went over the top with luxurious velvet dresses and coats for his fall Black Label line.
Although our pieces are not quite as ornate as Ralph’s, it’s nice to know we are in good company.
Photos of our green velvet dress and black velvet pencil skirt will be posted soon!
